Plantation Products donated seeds for me to try in the yard. They were very generous, I received 4 types of flowers seeds.

My backyard needs some landscaping detail, I created an outline of the area and cleared the grass and weeds. I recommend that you make a plan before you clear the area on where to place the plants and flowers.

After clearing the area, I needed to put down a type of covering to prevent the grass and weeds from growing back and I used paper bags from the local grocery store.  Landscape fabric is a great option to purchase and its environmentally friendly.

Once the landscape is down you can cut openings through the landscape fabric for the plants to be put down. Dig your hole, place a handful of potting soil, a bit of water and your plant or seed and you are done.  After placing the flowers down you can put your mulch or rocks around the area for a finished look.

The sunflower seeds that I planted started to sprout in about a week. Its has been about 3 weeks and they are growing very quickly.

Hi Whitney, I love the idea of using used paper bags as the barrier for weeds! Wish I had thought of that before I went and bought a roll of the fabric but will definitely keep this in mind next time around 🙂

How sweet that you got to receive seeds for free to plant. From the picture the one plant is growing in beautifully! I would love to have a garden, but I’m not very good with plants and such. I don’t have green thumb as they say.
